Don't believe what you read. This was a set purchased for use in a bedroom. The sound quality I've experienced is excellent, more than adequate in volume. Have found no need for any additional speakers even with the ceiling fan on high speed. Picture quality for the size is wonderful and improves when DVD's are utilized. Am so impressed with "bang for a buck" that am buying an additional one for use in another bedroom.
